Your Go-To Guide for a Who’s Who of Twitter

As Newsweek points out, contrary to its reputation, Twitter isn’t just a platform where you can read every single update from every single facet of every single person’s life—it’s a way to stay on top of breaking news, a reason to giggle while you’re on your iPhone in the grocery line and a place where cultural movements like #MeToo get started. Forbes agrees. Twitter is one of the most efficient ways to consume every subject of the news: international, political, cultural, etc. It gives you the power to personalize your media diet, down to the news network anchor or celebrity you want to follow. Maybe dismiss me as a typical millennial, but I rely on Twitter to stay well informed, and have all the of the latest news and research regarding national and international events, life, job searching and career improvement at my finger tips.

While I’m not advocating dismissing all other sources for information and relying solely on Tweets, Twitter should nonetheless be under your umbrella of go-to resources for staying in the know for everything from the latest breaking news and biggest stories in pop culture to recent articles you shouldn’t miss and an update on which politician the president is currently cyber bullying.

Here are a few of my favorite Twitter accounts, from celebrities to reporters and everything in between, that are worth a follow.

  • Lin-Manuel Miranda: The unstoppable and mega-talented creator of “Hamilton: An American Musical” has a lighthearted, GIF-filled timeline where he encourages people to be productive and where he links his playlists (he’s renown for making mixed tapes) fromhis spotify account to inspire, comfort and entertain his followers. Follow Lin for daily Tweets guaranteed to make you smile.
  • @SavedYouAClick: Don’t fall for clickbait—let this account do it for you.
  • Susan McPherson: McPherson is the founder and CEO of McPherson Strategies, a communications consultancy firm that intersects brands and social good. Her timeline is full of articles regarding corporate responsibility, social justice and news updates.
  • Maggie Haberman: The White House Correspondent for the New York Times and an analyst for CNN is one of the most reliable sources of White House news, often retweeting articles not just from her employers but from all over the internet with the latest news.
  • Chrissy Teigen: She’s hilarious. No other explanation needed. Come for the sassy Trump responses and adorable baby photos, stay for the Animal Crossing commentary and pleas for people to find her bras.
  • Cher: Cher is an iconic, and each of her Tweets are equally iconic. She never holds back on voicing her opinion in her own signature voice.
  • Elon Musk: Even if you’re not a total tech geek, Elon’s page is full of interesting anecdotes about about the technology which goes into his wonderful creations and the people who are behind the work.
  • WeRateDogs: WeRateDogs rates dogs (shocking, right?). You can either submit your own pup or sit back and enjoy other people’s pets. It’s a good follow, Bront. 13/10.
