Clearly from the subject line, I’m a not prolific blogger here at Fish. So, how come? Well, the easy answer (aka lie) is that I’m lazy, but there is another real reason – our team truly defines our culture not the “leader.” And that’s one of the main reasons we’ve successfully made it to our 15th birthday!
For those of you that wait with bated breath to read the latest newsletter and for the dedicated few that visit the blog between blasts, you know Fish Food for Thought has been a repository for all that is Fish, with some client and biz news mixed in. We’ve shared our insights on the latest binge-worthy shows, the moms we love, pop-up pancake breakfasts, why millennials are far from lazy, and much, much more! Most importantly, it’s served as an outlet for our incredible team to write what’s on their mind – and make a little cash on the side 🙂 Today’s 15th Anniversary themed newsletter is no different, but with a celebratory twist!
Most of you have come to appreciate that the agency’s main “product” as a national communications firm has been our wide spread brand-building media coverage, brand protection strategies and social influencer marketing. However, to get these unmatched results it starts with a great team, and I have the honor of working alongside of one of those every day.
Fifteen years ago, my wife and I started Fish in a closet. No lie! The closet was used to store musician equipment that I leased for $200 in downtown Hollywood, Florida. Kept us humble as we grew and began to expand our team. Today, I get to work with the most talented group of PR pros I’ve ever had to the pleasure to call colleagues. They embrace our mission, support each other, and best yet, are the engine behind the culture you all love so dear.
There is not a call, meeting or conference that I attend that our team is not complemented. You can see some of our client testimonials in another blog in today’s newsletter to get a taste of what I mean. We’ve all read the books that a happy team produces great work, but to see that materialize in front of you is completely another story. It can’t be built! It can only be fueled or, as I like to say, instigated. But it begins and ends with collaboration and respect. The two ingredients for success – both amongst our team and with our clients.
While we’re incredibly fortunate to have many long-term clients and benefit from extremely low client and employee turnover, make no mistake this takes a ton of work and commitment by all and not just the CEO. We enjoy working with each other AND our clients. This is what drives us and has fueled our success the last 15 years.
Every year on October 1st I realize how fortunate and thankful I am for the team, clients and relationships I’ve forged since 2004! Thank YOU and Happy 15th to all of our Fishies!
