If you follow our blog, you know that we’re all passionate TV viewers here at Fish. From all the Real Housewives to the latest true crime documentary on Netflix, we don’t discriminate when it comes to TV (honestly, with the length of our watch lists, it’s a miracle we get anything done at all aside from binging TV). Despite the fact that the world is literally on fire (click here for a list of organizations to donate to for the Australian fires) and our President may or may not be engaging in acts of war via Twitter, the silver lining of being alive in 2020 is that we’re undoubtably living in the golden age of television. Whether you’re into top-notch comedy or you’re more of a murder/suspense type of viewer, there’s something for everyone on TV these days.
With so much to watch these days, it can be overwhelming to decide which series is worth a 12-hour investment of your viewing time, but have no fear. I’ve compiled a handy-dandy guide to all of the much-watch TV in the pipeline for 2020, including new series that everyone is bound to be talking about and returning ones that are guaranteed to deliver. Keep reading to check out all the titles you need to plug into your DVR (descriptions courtesy of Buzzfeed).
New Series
Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, January 7th on NBC
Jane Levy stars as Zoey, a computer coder who can hear the innermost feelings, wants, and desires of those around her — but through popular songs. This show has so much heart and will absolutely make you want to get up and dance like no one’s watching. Skylar Astin, Lauren Graham, Peter Gallagher, Mary Steenburgen, and Alex Newell also star (and sing!!!).
The Outsider, January 12th on HBO
This miniseries is based on the novel of the same name written by Stephen King. Ben Mendelsohn and Cynthia Erivo play a cop and private investigator trying to solve the murder case of a young boy. Jason Bateman (who is also an executive producer and director on the show) stars as Terry Maitland, a local little league coach, English teacher, and the biggest suspect. And because it’s Stephen King, there WILL be some supernatural elements involved.
Little Fires Everywhere, March 12th on Hulu
Reese Witherspoon is at it again with this TV adaptation of Celeste Ng’s widely-praised novel Little Fires Everywhere. Reese stars, along with Kerry Washington, in the eight-episode miniseries. It follows the seemingly picture-perfect Richardson family, the Warrens, and the life-changing secrets they hide.
WandaVision, TBD on Disney+
WandaVision is one of the next installments in the MCU, and according to Elizabeth Olsen, we’ll finally learn why Wanda becomes known as Scarlet Witch. The series also takes place after Avengers: Endgame
Lizzie McGuire, TBD on Disney+
In the Disney+ series, Hilary Duff will reprise her role as Lizzie, who’s now 30 years old and living in New York City. In the reboot, Lizzie will be working as an apprentice to an interior designer and will also be engaged to a chef. Adam Lamberg will be back to play Gordo, along with Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine, and Jake Thomas who play Lizzie’s mom, dad, and brother Matt, respectively.
Returning Series
Schitt’s Creek, January 7th on Pop
The beloved Rose family is coming back for their sixth and final season. Like the previous season, Season 6 will be 14 episodes in total. Be prepared, because there’ll be many tears shed. This season is bound to be chock full of love, laughter, and just a drop of fruit wine.
The Good Place, January 9th on NBC
The Good Place will pick up from their midseason hiatus and we’ll hopefully get to see a lot more Eleanor and Chidi love. The midseason finale left off after Judge Gen rules that the points system is flawed, and decides to wipe out the entire human race. Chidi is finally given back all his memories in hopes that he has a way to change Judge Gen’s mind.
Impeachment: American Crime Story, September 27th on FX
American Crime Story will return with its third season and this time around the series will take on the Bill Clinton–Monica Lewinsky scandal. Beanie Feldstein is set to play Monica and Clive Owen will take on the role of Bill Clinton. Annaleigh Ashford and Sarah Paulson will also star as Paula Jones and Linda Tripp, respectively
The Haunting of Bly Manor, TBD on Netflix
This will be the second season of the Netflix anthology series that brought us the creepily wonderful Haunting of Hill House. It’ll be loosely based on The Turn of the Shrew, a horror novella by Henry James. Season 1 alums Victoria Pedretti, Kate Siegel, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, and Henry Thomas will all be back for the second season too!
