Welcome to Rivalry Week

The week before Thanksgiving is generally thought of as holiday prep, but for the sports obsessed it means one thing…rivalry week is back! Here at Fish, we work in a mostly divided house of UF, FSU and UCF alumni. For 51 weeks of the year, I can get along with my FSU colleagues, but this week it’s time for a little healthy competition. What about UCF? Well, we’ll let the national champs sit this one out.

If you were raised a UF or FSU fan, feuding with the other is basically in your DNA. It’s undoubtedly one of the biggest rivalries in college football and this year, the stakes are high. For the Seminoles, a 36-year bowl streak and 41-year streak of winning seasons is on the line. For the Gators, it’s their reputation. For the past five years, FSU has won the Sunshine Showdown, but this year No. 13 UF needs to prove why they are 8-3, while the Noles are 5-6.

The Gators have been battling to improve their football program and under the guidance of Dan Mullen have been making a lot of progress. Will it be enough to defeat the Noles and have them begging Jimbo Fisher to come back to Doak? I sure hope so. Here’s to a weekend of hearing the Tomahawk Chomp so many times my ears cry for help — Happy rivalry week!
