Government officials may have lifted mandated closures and stay-at-home orders but most of us are still working from home. That makes it 13+ months of us sleeping, working, exercising and eating in the same space. With us continuing to spend hours on end indoors, I thought now would be a great time to cover a few simple and easy ways that we can purify the air in our homes. Air pollution – whether you realize it or not – is a real thing and happens in everyone’s home! Things like paints, cleaning products, mold and dust can all impact the quality of the air you’re breathing, so it’s fair to say we should all be paying close attention to this. Here’s what you can do:
Add indoor plants throughout the home – One of the best (and trendiest) ways to filter the home’s air is by investing in plants that can do this. According to PureWow, houseplants like English ivy, bamboo, aloe and snake plants can clear the air of volatile organic compounds.
Replace the filter in your HVAC unit – Every 1-3 months, experts recommend that you change the filter in your AC units. While that’s a general rule of thumb to go by, the number of people and pets that live in your household may impact the frequency of when you should change the filter.
Invest in a dehumidifier – To remove the humidity inside the home, consider buying a dehumidifier. For those that live in hot, humid regions of the country like many of us here at Fish, this small appliance can make a big impact in the quality of the air.
Clean your carpets – While we typically think of carpets and rugs as great décor pieces that also make the home feel comfier, they do a great job at collecting dust, dirt and pet dander. Vacuum your carpets at least once a week and hire a professional carpet cleaner to do a deep clean once a year.
