Turn That Frown Upside Down: Tips to Brighten Your Day

We all have our bad days. Believe me, I get it. You woke up on the wrong side of the bed, found a bug in your first cup of coffee, or you had some jerk cut you off during your morning commute (looking at you, Floridians on 595). You earned your bad mood and you can keep it if you want! Or, you could try a few of my favorite methods to turn that bad day into a good one!

Music

My first method to improving my mood is music! A good playlist is key. My go-to playlist is Have a Great Day on Spotify. For some reason, whenever the song Africa by Toto comes on I simply have to smile. And sing. It’s embarrassing, but it works.

Cookies and Treats

Maybe it’s just me, but a cookie will always makes me happy. That’s why I keep a secret stash in my office (which Bernie, our CFO, may have found). Your treat may be a fresh smoothie, some form of chocolate candy, or Sour Patch Kids (Lauren Simo 😉 ). Whichever treat makes your taste buds tingle and your mouth smile, go with that.

Dance it Out

In the words of Meredith Gray, “Now we dance it out.” Please, watch the linked video if you’re in a mood. Because according to Meredith, dancing (and tequila) will solve all of your worrisome woes.

Go Outside!

Get some fresh air, go for that walk, or sit outside with your laptop (as I’m doing right now) while you get work done. Let the sun hit your skin, because guess what, lack of sunlight will drag your mood down. Soak up that Vitamin D and let your smile shine.

Play with Puppies

If you don’t smile when you’re playing with a puppy, something might be seriously wrong with you. Luckily, at my home, there’s always a puppy (or kitten) around to play with! If I’m having an off day, I go for a big hug and a little lick to kick that bad mood out the door.
