Tips from an Amazon Addict

Addicted to Amazon? Me too. Amazon makes life too easy. I have any and everything I need (plus a few items I don’t need) on my doorstep in two days. Amazon has the necessities as well as the oddities. Where else am I supposed to buy an Hourglass Sand timer? Or my most recent prized purchase, the moon light. Seriously, I’m addicted. Since I’ve been a Prime Member since 2011, I’ve learned a few things.

Here are a couple hints and tricks to enhance your Amazon experience:

Donate back with AmazonSmile.

“AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon with the same products, prices, and shopping features as Amazon.com. The difference is that when you shop on AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice.” You may donate to big names such as World Wildlife Fund, ASPCA, American Cancer Society and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Or find a charitable organization that’s local to you! I’m currently donating to my local rescue group: Good Karma Pet Rescue. All you need to do is sign in on smile.amazon.com and pick your charity. You may change your charity whenever you please. Honestly, it’s a no brainer.

Add gift card leftovers to Amazon.

Somehow there’s always an odd amount of seemingly useless change on a gift cards. This one has $1.72 and that one has $2.56. How are you supposed to use that when shopping?? Well, with my little trick! Buy yourself an Amazon gift card for $1.72 and $2.56. Voilà! You have magically used up all those leftovers.

Save for later is always an option.

This little button is a lifesaver for my trigger-happy add to cart tendencies. If you’re anything like me, it’s wildly simple to add items to your cart. My new rule: purchases must be “saved for later” for at least 48 hours. NO exceptions.

Prime member? Take advantage of ALL benefits.

Amazon Prime costs $149/year. Why not check out all the perks you’re paying for? Not only do you have free two-day shipping, you may also take advantage of free no-rush shipping while earning rewards for future purchases. Check out the added benefits of Prime Video, Prime Music, Prime Reading and more. Read the entire list here.

Amazon Household

What is Amazon household? It’s GREAT. A Household allows you to connect and share your Amazon benefits. You may add two adults and up to four teens and four child profiles per Household. Share all the benefits of Prime with you fam!

Really, really into Prime? Get the Visa Signature Card.

Within a year of having Amazon Prime, I signed up for the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card. If you’re eligible, you may upgrade to earn 5% back for every Amazon.com purchase. And where do you use those rewards? Amazon. It’s glorious. Story time: I couldn’t find discounts anywhere for my Kate Spade backpack. So what did I do? I waited until there were enough reward points in my account and BOOM, $50 off my brand new Kate Spade. Added bonus: the card is metal! I’m fancy.
