Spring is upon us and that means warm temperatures, flowers blooming everywhere, and overall pleasant weather. As PR pros, one of the most vital aspects of our career is staying up to date with industry trends and reading daily periodicals and magazines. One of the things we often overlook is reading for pleasure. According to Entrepreneur, reading can actually affect your career positively and strengthen communication skills. Here’s a list of books I recommend this spring season and for those of you who aren’t bookworms all of these books have been made into either TV shows/movies!
- GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso: this inspirational tale tells the story of Sophia Amoruso, a dumpster diver turned successful CEO and founder of NastyGal. This book takes the #1 spot as my favorite because of how inspirational and courageous Sophia is in starting her own business.
- The Girl on the train by Paula Hawkins: this chilling story uses both memory and one girl’s courage to investigate the truth of a missing person. Who doesn’t love a good thriller? Apart from the film adaptation including one of my favorite actresses, Emily Blunt, the character development is truly remarkable.
- The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood: recently made into an Emmy-award wining show; this story explores a totalitarian society and the women that live in it. This novel is extremely interesting and makes the list as one of my favorites because of the incredible characters and the stories they tell.
- The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks: a classic summer love story of two star-crossed lovers Noah and Ali whose love transcends time. This is my all-time favorite romance novel because of the passion and romance.
Whether you are looking for a romantic novel or a gripping story, there’s books are sure to keep you gripped till the end. What’s on your reading list this spring?
