Sam’s January Reading List

Another month, another recap of what I read! Without further ado…

The Good

  • Ghosts by Dolly Aldterton: A smart, sexy, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy about ex-boyfriends, imperfect parents, friends with kids, and a man who disappears the moment he says “I love you.” This was the first book I read in 2022 and is already a contender to be on my best of list for the year. Loved it.
  • Something Blue by Emily Giffin: Something Borrowed and Something Blue by Emily Giffin are the pinnacle of rom-com, chick-lit perfection. Something Borrowed was turned into a (mediocre) movie, and after catching the movie randomly playing on E! one weekend I was motivated to order and re-read Something Blue, the far superior sequel that unfortunately was never turned into a movie since Something Borrowed was a cinematic bust. Darcy and Ethan > Rachel and Darcy. Nothing Emily Giffin has written since comes close to how flawless the Something Borrowed/Something Blue books are, and if you haven’t read I highly recommend (but pick up Something Borrowed first, DO NOT settle for the film!).
  • Twenty Years Later by Charlie Donlea: Fans of Lisa Unger and Allen Eskens won’t want to miss this thrilling new suspense novel from the #1 internationally bestselling author of The Girl Who Was Taken! Hiding her own dark past in plain sight, a TV reporter is determined to uncover the truth behind a gruesome murder decades after the investigation was abandoned. Breathtaking pacing and clever plot twists.
  • Never Saw Me Coming by Vera Kurian: Fresh, fast-paced and fiendishly clever! If you love watching true crime and wonder about the psychopaths among us, this is the book for you!

The Bad

  • The Every by Dave Eggers: This is a sequel to 2014’s The Circle, which I loved, and I wanted to love this one but it just made me depressed. I know that technology and social media are ruining my life and society as a whole and there’s nothing I or anyone can do about it, but I don’t need to be reminded of that for 400 pages.
