This past Sunday, I experienced my first professional football game at the Hardrock Stadium – the New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins, arguably the two worst teams in the NFL, and it was…quite enjoyable.
I’m used to attending hockey games where players throw their gloves off and beat the crap out of each other, but I was pleasantly surprised by the excitement of an NFL game. Luckily, we had front row seats to all of the action. Here are some of my observations from the Dolphins first win of the season.
- People watching at the tailgate is definitely more exciting than attending the actual game. The outfits, the BBQ setups, the music and the people were EVERYTHING! I most enjoyed the Dolphin lifers who were decked out in their finest gear – the commitment for such a terrible team was A+.
- I was expecting there to be brawls in the stands from opposing fans, but I guess there was a sense of camaraderie from the long suffering fans of both teams.
- Did I mention the outfits? From topless dudes with full face paint to Dolphin-themed tuxedos, the fans sure know how to put on a show.
- Drunk football fans are very friendly – expect to high five lots of strangers.
- I never knew that being in a stadium with over 40,000 people cheering could get my adrenaline pumping but it was definitely an experience that I could never get from the watching the game on my couch at home.
I might be late to the party, but the NFL has gained a new fan in me. Cheers to the Dolphins winning their first game of the season, maybe this their lucky year. 😉
