The excitement and newness that fall brought while growing up doesn’t come as naturally anymore. The start of the school year no longer gives us a fresh start in fall, and with temperatures hot as ever around the country, it’s hard to integrate that fall feeling into our lives.
As a northerner turned Floridian, I’ve learned to adopt some habits that trigger the fall feeling the way the changing colors of leaves once did. No matter where you are or what your doing, these tips are sure to give you that back-to-school excitement of fall you once loved as a kid, even if the weather outside insists on clinging to summer.
- Start a new hobby
Fall is the perfect time to pick up a hobby, as getting into something new during this time of year ignites that feeling of a new school year we were once used to fall bringing. It could be a sewing class or rock climbing – fall is a great time to start doing that thing you’ve been saying you want to get into. - Rewatch Gilmore Girls
Fall and Gilmore Girls go hand in hand, and it is a known fact. Something about Stars Hallow just screams fall. No matter the weather outside, when you are cuddled up with Lorelai and Rory on the TV, your brain will definitely be tricked into thinking it is fall. - Pumpkin everything
Pumpkin and apple picking was one of my favorite fall activities growing up, and although we don’t have the plethora of farms here in South Florida that we did in New York, I fill that void by eating and drinking everything pumpkin. If I have the option to add pumpkin flavor to something during the months of September to November, I will be adding it. I’m drinking pumpkin spice lattes like it’s going out of style. - Football Sundays
I think we can all agree that football triggers that fall feeling. If you can’t make it to a game, at least head to your local sports bar and grab lunch with friends while watching your favorite team. Even just throwing on a football jersey on a Sunday sparks that fall feeling!
