Loco for Coconut Oil

So as you may or may not have heard, our beloved coconut oil isn’t as healthy as we all thought, or were told. A recent study by the American Heart Association (AHA) indicated that coconut oil is primarily unhealthy because it’s made up of about 82% saturated fat, which is far greater than most other oils.

The AHA survey also found that 72 percent of Americans considered coconut oil a health food and to be completely honest, I would’ve been part of the 72 percent had I been surveyed!

While coconut oil may not be as “healthy” enough to be your go-to cooking oil, that doesn’t mean you should eliminate it from your entire life completely.

As one of the in-house beauty gurus at the Fish office, I am obsessed with incorporating coconut oil into my beauty routine. Here are three different ways I use coconut oil:

Deep conditioner for your Hair

I’m sure this tip is nothing new, especially if you’re from South Florida. Before moving to the Sunshine State, you can say I was #blessed enough to never have to deal with frizzy hair. Now, it’s a completely different story and weekly deep conditioning treatments with coconut oil is a must! Every Sunday, I’ll grab a handful of coconut oil and massage it into my hair (only from the ears down) and leave it in overnight. FULL DISCLAIMER: If you get coconut oil near the crown of your head, it takes FOREVER to wash out, literally days…

Make up remover

Put a little coconut oil on a cotton ball and gently sweep it over your eyes. This little trick has even removed the toughest waterproof mascara from my lashes!

Moisturizer

What’s nature’s best lotion? You guessed it, coconut oil! Not only does it smell delicious, but also coconut oil leaves your skin feeling nourished and smooth.
