Keeping Culture Alive During COVID-19

At Fish, we are incredibly proud of our culture. From pancake breakfasts to summer fun days and the occasional roasting of Lorne, we balance our long days with light-hearted fun to the best of our ability, and in doing so, create bonds between co-workers that become unbreakable. Since the COVID-19 crisis has isolated our team from one another for seven weeks now, you’d think we would be feeling a strain on culture, but we’re not. Instead of sulking, we’ve gotten creative (one of our specialties) and have brought surprises and delights into our quarantine homes.

Here’s five ways Fish has been boosting team member’s morale while we wait out this crisis at home:

1. Drive-by gift drop. Even if we can’t be with each other, seeing a familiar face can bring someone a smile. Andie and Lauren surprised each Fishy with a special gift during our third week of quarantine.

2. Monthly virtual kudos cards. Our tradition of writing kudos cards and hanging them on our corkboard upstairs at the office was not derailed – we simply moved them to a virtual corkboard with virtual cards.

3. Zoom happy hours: Our Friday happy hours have turned virtual, and we’re learning to play around with zoom backgrounds to keep ourselves entertained.

4. Celebrating each other’s successes daily. Some days are harder than others in quarantine so it’s been important to Fish to continuously celebrate each other’s achievements in our group Skype chat whether big or small.

5. BINGO – the Fish way. Our latest culture event is a fun, quirky and hilarious take on bingo with some serious (read: work) and some not-so-serious tasks to mark off your card.
