Is it hot, or is it just me?

Heat records have been broken across the world in 2023. Our planet recorded its hottest June and July on record, sea ice levels are the lowest they’ve been, and ocean temperatures are so hot that they’ve surpassed 100 degrees in multiple spots. It’s hot and it’s going to get hotter. That’s why, it’s more important than ever to pay attention to these heat waves and take precautionary measures to stay hydrated and as cool as possible.

Stay inside.
If you’re sensitive to the heat and like me, feel like you’re going to get sick from the extreme temperatures, stay inside during the hotter parts of the day. In the afternoon – specifically around 3 p.m. – is when you can expect it to be the hottest. So, read a book at home, watch your favorite show on Netflix or do some online shopping during this period.

Stay hydrated.
Depending on whether you’re inside or outside, the amount of water you need to drink to stay hydrated will vary. However, a good rule of thumb is to drink 11-15 cups of water a day. According to the Mayo Clinic, women are recommended to drink on the higher end of that range versus men.

Shade, shade, shade!
Keep the temperature inside your home cool by adding blackout curtains to your space. I recently bought some on Amazon and not only were they affordable, but they also complement the décor in the living room. If you’re outside, seek shade. Drink a smoothie or iced drink under a big tree to stay cool while enjoying the outdoors. Don’t forget to also grab a hat and sunscreen to further protect yourself from the scorching rays.
