How to Celebrate Valentine’s Day in a Pandemic

This time las year, we were celebrating Valentine’s Day across the country (and world) in a big way – booking special getaways, traveling to see our significant others and going all out with restaurant reservations. Given we’re still in a pandemic and well, things aren’t back to normal just yet, this Valentine’s Day might look different. However, there’s an array of activities and ways to make February 14 special – even in a pandemic. Here are a few ideas to consider:

Participate in a virtual cooking class – My husband and I loved going to Chef Jean-Pierre’s in Fort Lauderdale to learn from the pros in the kitchen. Now that things are slightly more restricted and in-person cooking classes are on hold, try booking an online or virtual cooking class that you and your special person can enjoy on February 14. Choose from different cuisines and cultures and take a class that will be both fun and engaging. Best part is that you don’t have to be a chef to enjoy making something from scratch at home! Things might get messy but hey, at least you’re having fun and giving it a try.

Build a charcuterie board + go to the park – Across much of the country, people will find that parks are now open to the public and are one of the best outdoor spaces for social distancing. That’s why consider spending Valentine’s Day at the park. Build a picnic basket with a charcuterie board (get yourself some brie cheese, gouda, almonds, key lime jelly, crackers, grapes and salami) and your favorite bottle of wine. Don’t forget to bring plates, glasses and napkins. If you’re into having some music playing in the background, grab your portable Bluetooth speaker as well!

Create a wine and food pairing night at home – Last year, there were many restaurant in South Florida that had created special pairing menus for couple to indulge in on Valentine’s Day. With some of those cancelled or shut down in 2021, try creating your own wine and food pairing night at home. Do a little bit of research and build out a menu that creates the perfect pairing for you and your partner to enjoy.

Make it a game night – It might be old school, but game nights are the perfect way to bond and have fun on Valentine’s Day. Go to Target, pick out a new game, grab some snacks and treats and you’ll have everything you’ll need to recreate the ideal Valentine’s Day game night.
