Essential Oils for your Home or Office

If you’ve had the pleasure of going to a traditional yoga class, you’ve undoubtedly been introduced to essential oils. Essential oils are often incorporated throughout the class, either mixed in a diffuser or a few drops on your palm before class or during savasana. I’m here to share with you that it doesn’t stop at yoga. Essential oils have been used for food preparation, beauty treatments, and health-care practices. I find ways to use them in my day-to day. There are countless concoctions to create. Mix and match? Make a blend! Below are four of my favorite essential oils and how I enjoy using them. If some of these oils pique your interest, you can check out the different types of aroma oils available at AromaTech here.

Peppermint

Can’t stay focused? Try my favorite uplifting oil, peppermint! Peppermint is strong and has a concentrated aroma. A single drop will awaken your senses and activate your mind. Massage a few drops onto your pressure points, help ease your tension headaches as well as soothe muscles aches and pains. If the strong, minty, refreshing aroma of peppermint is too intense for you, try Spearmint oil. Peppermint may also be used for an upset stomach, cramps, sore or dry throat, etc. Massage a few droplets to the affected area and breath deeply.

Eucalyptus

Every morning I place a few droplets of eucalyptus on my wrists, rub them together and breath deeply. This practice helps unblock my morning sinus congestion. And it’s the only method that works! From time to time, I’ll add a few drops into my diffuser and the soothing effects fill my room. Eucalyptus’ disinfectant properties make it ideal to use in a spray for your kitchen and bathroom, or diffuse the oil in your bathroom to eliminate germs and odors.

Lavender

My go-to sleepy time essential oil. For this essential oil, I take a small glass spray bottle, ΒΌ cup of distilled water and 3 drops of lavender. Shake well and spray! I love to douse my pillow in lavender before climbing into bed. Lavender works wonders to soothe nerves. Add a drop or two to a warm bath and melt into it. Lavender has endless therapeutic uses; try it for skin rashes, disinfecting cuts, acne, insect bites and minor burns.

Tea Tree

What’s tea tree useful for? All of the above. It’s my go-to for any- and every- thing essential oil. For use around your home, you may add a few drops and mix with water for a disinfectant spray around your home.
