Enjoy the Holidays Without Feeling Guilty About the Calories

Let’s face it. The next few weeks are basically all centered around food. Thanksgiving kicks off the holiday festivities, followed by work parties and Christmas. Most people forgive themselves for the amount of food they intake during this time of year and ditch their diets until January 1. However, I’m not one to just forget about the carbs and calories. So, thought we could all benefit from a little reminder on how to tackle the holiday feasts without feeling bad about what we’re eating.

Start your mornings on a lighter note

Things can quickly go downhill in the food department when you’re staying somewhere else that isn’t your home. In your fridge, you’re in charge of what type of food is stored in there. However, that’s not the case when you’re sleeping over at a family member’s house. So, kick off your day with a light breakfast. Blend up a berry smoothie or mix cereal into a bowl of yogurt.

Workout while you can

Typically, family and friends get together in the later part of the day. So, it’s best to take advantage of the time you have to yourself in the morning and sneak in a workout. If you’re away from your go-to gym, lace up your running shoes and explore the area. This workout will not only have you feeling refreshed and happy that you’re not at the kitchen counter snacking on whatever mom or grandma are whipping up, but also get you to think about yourself and what you’re doing to practice self-care.

Limit your drinking

I get it. It’s easy to pop the bottle and pour yourself a mimosa while prepping for the feast. To limit the calorie intake, I recommend holding off on any drinking until your guests arrive. Think of it as a reward for getting through a long day of planning and cooking!

Recruit a buddy

Don’t do this alone. Some of us need someone to hold us accountable and recruiting your husband or sister to join you on this holiday challenge will make this much easier to accomplish. Let them know your plan ahead of time and explain why you’ve committed yourself to being as healthy as possible during the holidays.
