Despite a Finals Sweep, LeBron James Is Still the GOAT

Let’s get this out of the way — LeBron James is the GOAT. The Golden State Warriors may have just swept him in the NBA finals, but that initial fact is not up for debate and I’ll tell you why.

LeBron James is a 33-year-old legend that was drafted out of high school, has been to 8 straight finals and is a 14-time All-Star. He may only have 3 rings, but don’t think it’s solely because of his athletic performance.

Lets break it down. The Cleveland Cavaliers have 4 leading players; LeBron James, Kevin Love, George Hill and Tristan Thompson. In the 2018 playoffs, if you compare LeBron’s PPG, RPG and APG average per game against the other 3 players stats, LeBron’s talent is undeniable. He averages 52.7, while Kevin Love is averaging 26.4, George Hill 14.1 and Tristan Thompson 12.7.

Forget the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. The Golden State Warriors. This finals matchup was LeBron James vs. The Golden State Warriors. Need more proof than the indisputable statistics from the finals series? How about LeBron’s monster pass to HIMSELF that resulted in a seriously amazing slam.

At the end of the day, LeBron did not win a ring. And yes, he’s probably going to be leaving Cleveland because of it (as he should). But, just because he didn’t take home the bling doesn’t mean he isn’t one of the greatest basketball players of our time. You try single-handedly playing against two-time finals MVP Kevin Durant or the master 3-pointer Stephen Curry and then we’ll talk.
