Cutting the Cord

After more than 10 years of paying cable bills that seemingly got more expensive each month, I decided to cut the cord. Literally. I called Cablevision; let them know I was done and that I wanted a swift and painless divorce. Much like most divorces, this was an acrimonious separation. Steve from Cablevision could not understand how I would want to cancel my cable subscription. He sassed me left and right and told me I was making the wrong decision. I stood firm in my position and declined every offer he threw at me. It was the best decision I’ve made.

Dumping cable allowed me to meet the Amazon Fire Stick and opened the doors to a universe I never knew existed. It introduced me to the greatness that is Electric Dreams, which will have you pondering your very existence and what it really means to be a human. Not to mention I can access Netflix (which isn’t even my own account, I steal my bff’s login, embarrassing, I know) and have discovered the (legal/illegal?) genius that is Kodi.

Here are some of my favorite (new and old) shows that are in heavy rotation:

  • The Office – PARKOUR!
  • Real Housewives Franchise – I don’t discriminate but IMO, RHONY is the best
  • Gracie and Frankie – Life goal: be more like Frankie
  • King of Queens – Arthur is the star
  • Homeland – Carrie’s cry-face is gold
  • Black Mirror – Makes me rethink my dependency on technology
  • Diners, Drive-ins and Dives – <3 greasy food
  • House Hunters – Reaffirms that I will never own a home unless I live in middle America where I can get a mansion for $200,000
  • MSNBC’s Lock Up – Prisons are intriguing and prisoners are even more intriguing
  • Mind Hunters – Reminds me that in my next life I’d like to be a criminal psychologist

If you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t checked out all of these shows, do so immediately! Oh, and enjoy some of the most hilarious moments from The Office in the meantime.
