Bad Habits to Leave in 2023

As we look ahead towards what 2024 has in store for us, it’s important to take a look back and think – what worked or didn’t, and what can we do better in the new year. Did you pick up a bad habit with social media? What about spending too much money on TikTok products that you barely use? There’s no point in bringing with us into the new year things that stress us out or simply do us no good. Here are a few of those in mind…

  • Overdoing it on screen time. Spending hours and hours on our phones scrolling through Instagram has zero positive effects on our health. In fact, it has shown that too much screen time can lead to obesity, neck and back problems, and anxiety. Setting a limit on how long I spend on apps or even aimlessly searching on the web will be one of the top priorities for me going into 2024.
  • Setting unrealistic expectations. There were a few times in the year where I set myself up to fail by committing to unrealistic fitness challenges or other activities that would stress me out more than needed. Next year, I’m going to manage my expectations better.
  • Storing away unused clothes. My closet could use a deep cleaning and purging. There are so many times that I will tell myself that maybe on the next date night I’ll wear that shirt or pair of shoes that have dust on them from sitting in the closet unused, but deep down I know I won’t. I can’t be the only one that’s guilty of that! In the new year, I will do a better job of donating gently-used clothing to a local charity instead of letting it take up space in my closet. The Florida Breast Cancer Foundation is one of the go-to organizations that I’ll donate to from time to time. They come and pick up the items even so really, there’s no excuse to not get rid of clothing going unused.

The new year is the perfect opportunity to reflect on the past twelve months and be honest with yourself. Start fresh in January and remember, not everything you do has to be perfect but it’s all about trying to improve in ways that will make a positive impact on your day-to-day lives.
