Sam’s October Reading List

Another month has gone by, so it’s time for another recap of what I read last night and what I recommend! Without further ado…

The Good

  • Riviera House by Natasha Lester: A lush and engrossing novel of one woman’s quest to keep Nazis from stealing priceless art during WWII, perfect for fans of The Rose Code.
  • Not All Diamonds and Rose: The Inside Story of The Real Housewives by Dave Quinn:Dave Quinn’s Not All Diamonds and Rosé is the definitive oral history of the hit television franchise, from its unlikely start in the gated communities of Orange County to the pop culture behemoth it has become―spanning nine cities, hundreds of cast members, and millions of fans.
  • The Book of Lost and Found by Lucy Foley: From London to Corsica to Paris — as a young woman pursues the truth about her late mother, two captivating love stories unfurl in this captivating novel from the author of The Guest List.
  • The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell: From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Then She Was Gone comes another riveting work of psychological suspense about a beautiful young couple’s disappearance on a gorgeous summer night, and the mother who will never give up trying to find them.

The Just Okay

  • Light Out in Lincolnwood by Geoff Rodkey: A mordantly funny, all-too-real novel in the vein of Tom Perotta and Emma Straub about a suburban American family who have to figure out how to survive themselves and their neighbors in the wake of a global calamity that upends all of modern life.

The Bad

  • Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty: It’s official – this author will never top Big Little Lies. This book was boring with unlikeable characters and topped off with a ridiculously stupid ending that made the entire story irrelevant. Undoubtably, it will still be turned into a Hulu show starring Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, and this is one instance where the show will be better than the book because anything would be better than this.
