Here’s How to WFH With Your Partner

It’s now been 5+ months since working from home became our new normal and from what we can tell,  it’s not going away any time soon. While some states are experiencing a break in confirmed COVID-19 cases, medical experts are warning Americans that a second wave could hit the country and let’s not forget that we haven’t even hit the start of flu season. That said, figured it’s time we could all use a refresher on the do’s and don’ts of working from home with our partners.

Designate workstations. Whether it’s the guest room desk, dining room table or kitchen counter, it’s important to assign where each person’s primary workspace will be. This will not only alleviate the hassle of figuring out where you’ll work each new day, but also create boundaries and a space that you feel you truly have to yourself – despite being stuck inside with your significant other in the home as well.

Set office hours. Today, I came across an article on GQ.com that brought up a good point – set office hours and try to work during your typical time. For most, like us at Fish, our homes have turned into our new office space. To continue to separate the two, experts recommend sticking to a schedule. Feel free to also share your calendar with your partner and vice versa to ensure you’re both aware of what those look like.

Have lunch together. While the two of you will have separate work schedules, squeezing in a lunch together a couple times a week can be beneficial to your mental health and provide just the right amount of time together you’ll need without overdoing it. I remember the days where I wouldn’t see my husband until late into the evening and always wished we could spend some time together throughout the day. Now, we have that opportunity and we’ve definitely been taking advantage of those 30-40 minute lunch breaks. It truly makes a big difference!
