Work From Home Fashion Tips

I’m a firm believer that how you look can impact how you feel. After the pandemic began, I went a solid 90 days without putting on real pants, and I’m sure most of you did the same. It’s hard to care about looking cute when the world is on fire. However, once it became obvious that our initial expectation of this pandemic ending by early Summer was not going to be the case, I made a promise to myself that it was time to try to get back to some semblance of a normal life – and step one to making that happen was changing out of sweats. While there are definitely still some days where getting dressed is simply not a priority (understandable given how exhausting it is living through a global pandemic), getting up a little bit earlier so I can feel more put together before starting my day has had a major positive impact on my overall mental health. Here are some tips on how I found a work from home fashion style that worked for me and made me feel a bit more like a normal, productive human again. Apologies in advance to our male readers – most of these tips apply to my fellow ladies, although you’re more than welcome to try ‘em out if you want to rock some cute accessories or yoga pants J

  • Throw on a pair of hoop earrings. Adding my favorite gold hoops to any outfit (even a comfy sweat set) makes me immediately feel like I have my sh*t together. If you need some new hoops, check out this chunky set from Madewell, my personal favorite.
  • Invest in some tie-dye. If you have an Instagram, I’m sure you’re already aware that every basic girl on the face of the Earth has been going tie-dye crazy in quarantine. If that makes me basic, then so be it, because investing in adorable tie-dye sweatpants instead of my drab gray ones has been one of my smartest moves. No need to sacrifice being cute for being comfortable.
  • Sundresses instead of sweats. A flowy sundress can be just as comfortable as a pair of sweatpants.
  • Play around in your closet. All the extra time at home means you can have a chance to clean out your closet and try out some new outfits. That top you bought last summer but haven’t worn? Rock it for the day. If it’s cute, then you found a new favorite, and if it’s not, no one but your pet or roommate saw you wearing it anyway and you can donate it to a local non-profit.
  • Reassess your yoga pants style. I’m never going to suggest not wearing yoga pants or leggings. That’s blasphemy and frankly offensive. However, reassess how you’re wearing your yoga pants – don’t top them off with the crappy sleep t-shirt you got from a conference 3 years ago. If you’re going to wear yoga pants, pair them with a cute tank or invest in a stylish set. Spiritual Gangster has a ton of great options for yoga pant ensembles that will make you look like you put a ton of effort into your outfit while being insanely comfortable and cozy.
  • Get back to the basics (like brushing your hair). If I told you how long I went without running a brush through my hair when the pandemic first started, you’d be truly appalled. When you’re spending most your time at home, it’s easy to neglect some of the most basic beauty steps, but getting back to the basics is the easiest way to getting back to feeling and looking your best. Take 10 extra minutes in the morning to do your hair, swipe some mascara on your eyes and run through a few skincare routine steps.
