April Fish Insights

Welcome back to Fish Insights! In this month’s edition, we’re still talking about COVID-19 (no surprise there), but the conversation has started to shift to what life will be like when businesses reopen and stay-at-home orders are lifted. The short version of the story is that no one really knows, but we’re all pretty eager to talk about it.

So, once again, grab your beverage of choice (I’m big on this dry, hoppy cider these days) and happy reading. Until next time!

Restaurants & Hospitality

  • Restaurant Business looked at what eating out will be like once states begin reopening dining rooms — including masks and temperature checks, disposable menus, socially distant tables, and lots of sanitizing.
  • Eater says restaurants will face a much more difficult time reopening than other sectors due to layoffs, financial constraints, and customers’ lingering coronavirus fears.
  • Las Vegas’ mayor wants to reopen casinos and hotels and employees aren’t happy about it.

Fitness, Health, & Wellness

  • Say goodbye to crowded gyms! Gold’s Gym plans to operate at 50% capacity upon reopening and to kindly ask everyone to (finally) wipe down equipment after each use.
  • Gyms in Beijing are having to close again due to concerns over a second wave of coronavirus spreading.
  • States are split on when massage therapy businesses should re-open, but Michigan’s governor says these “intimately public-facing” services will be last on the list.
