HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver recently kicked off its newest season, reminding me once again that when it comes to informative, entertaining TV about politics, this show can’t be beat. Equal parts news and comedy, each episode focuses on one topic per half-hour show, and explores it in-depth, often making incredibly complicated topics easy to digest and understand. Segments are typically focused on the most relevant topics dominating the news cycle, and have tackled everything from public schooling and abortion access to refugee crises – which as Vulture points out, all of which have become crucial battlegrounds amid Trump’s rise to the presidency. Given that we’re in the midst of a presidential election year, now is the perfect time to revisit some of Oliver’s best segments and educating yourself on these important issues.
