As a new homeowner, here are 5 things I learned we can’t live without

Going from place to place can switch things up for you – especially when you become a homeowner. Things you thought you’d never need are now essentials and you quickly learn which items are a must as you settle into your new home. For me, it was a blend of must-haves for cleaning, organizing and relaxing.

Ladder

I knew that at one point or another we would need to make a trip to Home Depot and buy a ladder. However, didn’t know it would be immediately after signing on the dotted line and getting the keys. Going to a hardware store specifically for a ladder always seemed like such an adult thing to do and quite frankly, never really had the need for it before. Now, I’m not ashamed to say our 6 foot ladder has been one of the best purchases we’ve made. Our home has 10+ foot ceilings so needless to say, reaching the fan to clean the lights or hanging a picture frame isn’t all that easy. The ladder also is a great go-to for trying to reach the back of the kitchen cabinets or the top rack of the closet.

Drill

From hanging new wall art to installing a door lock, an electric drill will be lifesaving. I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve used ours and not only does my husband love to use it, but so do I. It makes putting things up on the wall a lot easier and hassle-free.

Magic Eraser

Now that I have more than one bedroom and bathroom to clean after, having reliable products and cleaning tools that’ll make the process easier and faster is a must! Since moving, I’ve used the Magic Eraser for wiping down our appliances, mirrors and even getting rid of residue left behind by tape and stickers. Highly, highly recommend.

Organizers

Before purchasing a home, we only had to worry about paying rent. Now, there’s a monthly mortgage, HOA fees and a list of bills that we didn’t have before. So, staying organized and on top of it all is necessary. This past weekend, we snagged drawer and binder organizers to create a systemized method that will keep everything in order. You can also get yourself a calendar that hangs and stays in view, so you know when important due dates are getting closer.

Scented Candles

After a long day of cleaning and organizing, there’s nothing I enjoy more than relaxing on the couch with a glass of cabernet and candles lit. Cut the bright lights off and create an environment that’s calm with a few candles. What’s great about candles is that you can pick the one that caters to your needs. If you’re looking to lay low for the rest of the day, choose lavender. If you’re in the mood to bake some pumpkin bread later in the afternoon and get in the holiday spirit, pick a cinnamon apple candle.
