Inclusivity and diversity have been major themes in 2019 and while some national retailers and beauty brands have been late to adapt their aesthetics and policies to better represent this cultural shift, Sephora is the exception. This year, they embraced a new pledge and instead of just expressing the intention to be more inclusive, Sephora is proving it.
Debuting the company manifesto ‘We Belong To Something Beautiful’, Sephora notes this represents the company’s dedication in building a community where diversity is expected, self-expression is honored, all are welcomed and included. Below are a few of the ways Sephora is putting this pledge into action.
Inclusive beauty education
On June 5th, Sephora stores across the country shut down for a company-wide inclusivity and belonging workshop. In addition, the company is continuously rolling out new materials meant to educate their staff on serving clients of all skin types and skin tones, as well partnering with the NeuroLeadership Institute to develop curriculum focused on positive behavioral change across the system.
Classes for confidence
Sephora has created specialized classes meant to help individuals going through major life transitions. Classes include Brave Beauty in the Face of Cancer, Bold Beauty for the Transgender Community and Workforce Re-Entry. So far, Sephora says about 2,000 classes have been held and 80% of participants report an increase in confidence.
#SephoraSquad program
The company has also showcased their commitment to diversity with the launch of their influencer program #SephoraSquad. Earlier this year, they announced the first influencers to join the program and it represented a wide range of nationalities, gender and sexual orientations and ethnicities. The influencers will be tasked with creating content for the brand, which is bound to have a positive impact on consumers who have felt unrepresented in the past.
Cheers to you, Sephora! Your commitment in creating a welcoming environment fit for all is inspiring and so important. Everyone deserves to feel beautiful and representation coming from a massive beauty brand like you really does make an impact on the self-confidence of many across the country.
