20 Questions with Matt Ritter

Being one of only three men in a female-dominated office could present a challenge to some, but not Matt. Growing up with a sister might have given him an edge, but when it comes to fitting in and participating in daily banter with a group of strong, smart and (very) vocal women, he doesn’t skip a beat. Must be his charm, right? We think his new wife Krystal would agree (Matt just got married at the end of April). Matt joined the Fish team earlier this year and immediately dove in head first, leading some of the agency’s largest accounts including Jersey Mikes and FOCUS Brands. When he’s not plugging away at the office, you’ll most likely find him watching or talking about sports, and hangin’ at home with his wife and Toy Yorkie Chloe. Read on for more fun facts about Matt!

Work you and personal you likely differ slightly. So how would your friends describe you?
Outgoing, social and someone that is excited to try new things.

And how would Lorne describe you?
Calm and dry. Probably the way that most people would describe me. It’s often difficult to tell when I’m excited or upset.

Bookworm or TV addict?
TV 100%. I watch a different sporting event every night and spend all day Saturday and Sunday watching football in the Fall.

What’s your funniest Fish memory?
Bringing my dog (Chloe) to the office for the first time. She’s a six-pound Toy Yorkie (my wife’s choice) and insists on being at your level. So, I had to put her on my desk in her pink bed wearing her pink sweater (was a cold day in South Florida). The looks on my colleagues’ faces as they passed by my desk were pretty hilarious. Quite an exciting day for Chloe.

If you were Lorne for a day, what would you do?
Change the channel in the main room to ESPN. Enough of the drama-filled sitcoms and Ellen DeGeneres.

Early bird or night owl?
Early bird. Was a night owl in college, but those days are long gone.

What are you currently binge watching on Netflix?
Binged Ozark and 13 Reasons Why. Pumped for Season Two of both!

Tacos – hard shell or soft shell?
Both obvs. You wrap the hard shell in the soft shell and connect them using refried beans. Best of both worlds.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Willing to accept failure. I struggle with failing to accomplish a goal and need to realize that those situations are going to occur from time to time. Also, my neck – damn thing has been killing me for months.

If it were up to you, what would your song selection be for conference line hold music?
Country – Chicken Fried by Zac Brown Band or Beer for my Horses by Toby Keith.

Bloody Mary or Mimosa? And you can’t say both, although I’d absolutely respect it.
Bloody Mary. Especially one accompanied by a large shrimp, mini-cheeseburger or chicken tender. It’s like a whole meal as a garnish!

You can bring anyone as a date to a dinner party, dead or alive, who’s your plus one?
My wife. She’s the life of the party and my everything.

We know you can’t sing, but what’s your go-to karaoke song?
Paradise by the Dashboard Light – Meatloaf

What’s your party trick?
Keg stand – just rarely get the opportunity anymore.

Pick your poison – straight shot or mixed cocktail?
Mixed cocktail – Old Fashioned is my go to. I’m admittedly a wimp when it comes to straight shots.

Amy Poehler or Amy Schumer?
Poehler. Getting a little tired of Schumer.

If you could spend a year living anywhere in the world, where would it be?
London. My favorite city in the world. Spent a semester there studying abroad and there’s just so much to do, see, eat and drink. I miss it. We need to implement the pub culture here in America. Beers at lunch should become a thing!

When was the last time you told a lie? And if you say you don’t lie, then your answer should be “right this second.”
During my wedding weekend in late April. Dad asked me the morning of how I was feeling and I said, “I’m good.” Blatant lie. I was nervous, excited, anxious and a mess.

Besides an ice cold cocktail, what motivates you?
Success for my teams and myself. Hard work should always be rewarded, but it’s much more satisfactory to see your team rewarded than yourself.

If your name were an acronym, what would it stand for?
Meticulous
Adventurous
Tenacious
Thankful
