20 Questions with Elayne Jacobs

A combination of New York roots, laser focus and a selfless attitude make Elayne an invaluable member of the Fish team. From her digs in D.C., Elayne leads several accounts, including Fazoli’s, Pitch A Penny and Valpak, and never fails to deliver. With the welcomed chaos that ensues on a daily basis, we can always count on Elayne to stay calm, cool and collected. But press the wrong buttons and her tough-as-nails Long Island accent will come out in full force. Just ask her husband Austin and poodle terrier Ella, both of whom have likely witnessed this firsthand. Read on to see what else might surprise you about our driven account director.

Work you and personal you likely differ slightly. So how would your friends describe you?
What may come as a surprise to others is that I can be more laid back and have a go with the flow attitude in my personal life, while I appreciate a more structured and organized work environment. My friends also would describe me as selfless, optimistic and having positive energy.

And how would Lorne describe you?
Detail-oriented and slightly type-A when it comes to organization and tasks.

Bookworm or TV addict?
I don’t follow as much TV as my husband, but when I get into a show, I’m all in. I do enjoy reading and am an avid reader of lifestyle and fashion blogs. Cupcakes and Cashmere has been one of my favorites for the past five years.

What’s your funniest Fish memory?
Burning popcorn in the Florida office. There was no escaping the stench, especially in an open-office floor plan and cracking open a window was not an option. While everyone may have disliked me for the rest of the day, we all got a good laugh out of it in the end. There’s an amusing conversation about it (at my expense) still floating around the Twitterverse. For a good laugh, check it out – #Elayneburntpopcorn

If you were Lorne for a day, what would you do?
Instill “Summer Fridays” all-year round.

Early bird or night owl?
Naturally I’ve always been an early bird. Even before working remotely, I appreciate the opportunity to take my time in the morning to sip my coffee and live life at my own pace before the emails start piling in and everything is go, go go!

What are you currently binge watching on Netflix?
Just started watching Big Little Lies on HBO Go, then considering moving on to 13 Reasons Why. Also anticipating the return of The Crown and OITNB.

Tacos – hard shell or soft shell?
It all depends on my mood. Sometimes I’m feeling crispy, while other times I like fresh, soft tortillas.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
The workweek can often be a bit hectic, so I would encourage myself to relax a little bit more and enjoy the moment. This year, I started practicing yoga and it has taught me a lot about being mindful.

If it were up to you, what would your song selection be for conference line hold music?
At this very moment, it would be Coldplay’s Hymn for the Weekend.

Bloody Mary or Mimosa? And you can’t say both, although I’d absolutely respect it.
While I do enjoy a Bloody Mary every now and then, I am definitely a mimosa kind of girl.

You can bring anyone as a date to a dinner party, dead or alive, who’s your plus one?
Frank Sinatra – he’s timeless.

We know you can’t sing, but what’s your go-to karaoke song?
TLC’s “No Scrubs.” My vocal range is very limited.

What’s your party trick?
I can move my ears without using my hands.

Pick your poison – straight shot or mixed cocktail?
Typically, it’s a glass of rose or sauvignon blanc, but a margarita with salt is always fun.

Amy Poehler or Amy Schumer?
Both Amys are hilarious; although sometimes I feel like I need to take a shower after listening to Amy Schumer speak.

If you could spend a year living anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Italia! I’ve never been to Italy, or Europe for that matter, but often dream about the days when I can explore areas like Florence and the Amalfi Coast. It’s on my bucket list!

When was the last time you told a lie? And if you say you don’t lie, then your answer should be “right this second.”
A little white lie never hurt anyone, so they say.

Besides an ice cold cocktail, what motivates you?
I thrive off the energy of other motivated people, so I like to surround myself with family and friends who are go-getters and have similar mindsets. I’ve also learned to set personal goals for myself whether it’s for the week, or even the month, and strive to work towards them on an ongoing basis. It helps me feel more motivated and reminds me to continue push myself.
