Why Your Trip to the Keys Should Start and Stop with Key Largo

I know what you’re thinking – isn’t Key West THE place to go to during a trip to the Keys. Hate to break it to you, but Key West is overrated and quite frankly, you don’t need to drive 4+ hours to get to where you want to be. Last month, I booked a stay at Playa Largo Resort & Spa in Key Largo and I’m already looking forward to visiting again. Here’s why:

  • Everything you need is in Key Largo – Waterfront restaurants and bars, watersports and breathtaking accommodations are all within close range. What’s even better is the fact that you don’t have the crowds you see in Key West battling for a table at the bar or a jet ski rental. And yes, you can still catch the iconic sunsets Key West is known for in Key Largo.
  • There’s a big selection of watersports (and reasonably priced too!) – During our three day stay in Key Largo, we went on a sunset excursion and had snorkeling and paddleboards on deck to use at all times. The resort we stayed at has an on-site excursion company that you simply walk over to and book the activity you want without complicated pitches or overprized rentals. Highly recommend setting time apart to catch a cruise ride through that part of the Keys and watch the sunset from the boat. You can only imagine how beautiful the views are!
  • It’s the perfect getaway to relax and enjoy your time off – I think my trip to Key Largo was one of the most relaxing vacations I’ve taken. With views of the Gulf of Mexico from our balcony and all throughout the property, it was hard not to relax on this trip. There were days all my husband and I did was lounge by the pool or private beach area sipping on frozen piña coladas (I know basic but they were truly amazing).

So whether you’re looking for an easy getaway or hoping to avoid the long drive to Key West, I recommend looking into a stay in Key Largo. We went in December and it was not only the perfect way to end a busy 2019, but also a great excuse to enjoy the cooler – yet not freezing – weather in Florida.
