What I’m Thankful For This Year

This year, what I’m most thankful for is that Thanksgiving coming means it’s almost Christmas which means this nightmare of a year is almost over. In all seriousness, reflecting on 2020 really should be an opportunity to find gratitude. Maybe this year has taken from me my ability to go to a bar or go see a movie or invite more than 10 people to my socially distanced 30th birthday party, but it could have taken a lot more. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I’ve taken an opportunity to recognize all of the good I have around me and what truly matters. Here’s what I’m thankful for this year.

  • My dog, who was my companion throughout quarantine and singlehandedly kept me sane in the midst of a global pandemic
  • My health, something 230k+ Americans and their friends and families and loved ones would do anything to have back
  • My job, knowing millions and millions of people haven’t been as fortunate as me for circumstances completely out of their control
  • My home, remembering that millions and millions of people without a roof over their head would kill to have my tiny one bedroom apartment
  • My friends and family, who are all safe and healthy, unlike far too many people in our country and all over the world
  • My right to vote, which I was able to use this November because so many before me fought, and even died, just so our generation would have the rights that had been denied to them
  • My sanity, because despite all the odds I’ve escaped 2020 without completely losing my sh*t (at least, not yet)
