Our Quarantine Silver Linings

By the time you read this in our monthly newsletter, the Fish team will have been scattered across our various workspaces for seven weeks. Yep, we’ve been working from our home offices, kitchen tables, couches, balconies, yoga mats, etc., for … a while now.

But just like we’re sure you have, we’ve found all this self-isolation has forced us to spend more time with our loved ones and pets, cherish the little things, discover new hobbies, try new recipes, and finally nail that yoga pose. So, hey, it’s not all bad. Plus, we’re doing our part to help flatten the curve.

So in the spirit of us all being in this together, we wanted to share the silver linings we’ve found during quarantine. We hope these make you smile — or inspire you to try something new!

“In my spare time, I’ve focused on improving my yoga skills … and finally nailing my headstand!”
– Shana Rosenthal

“My silver lining through all of this has definitely been bonding with my eight-month-old puppy, Pepper! I rescued Pepper back in late November and hated leaving her in her crate at home while I was at the office. Over the past month working from home, Pepper and I have gotten to spend some much-needed quality time together. We take long walks around the neighborhood, have balcony happy hours with Chelsea, and cuddle for post-brunch naps on the weekends. (Yes, that is a Bloody Mary behind me.)”
– Caitlin Willard

“I have been working on my chef skills and cooked up some shrimp wontons.”
– Natalie Candela

“Looking to pick up a relaxing activity that’d take my mind off the current pandemic, I decided to pull out my old sketchbook, which I hadn’t seen in a year or so, and start drawing like I used to.”
– Nadia Caron

“#Quarantinelife has stepped up my creativity. We have our 5 year old with us in lockdown and she (and me) are OVER IT. London loves pretending to be a DJ so we set up a ‘club’ in our living room — disco lights and all — and let her rock out. I even assigned her dad to be the front door security and myself as her backup dancer.”
– Shannon O’Reilly

“Moving into a new home in the midst of a pandemic hasn’t been ideal, but, despite the challenges, I’m grateful to be in a comfortable space with plenty of room for activities — my favorite being teaching Abbie to swim! She loves the pool way more than I thought, which might become a very wet problem down the road, but, for now, watching her doggie paddle and splash around has brought us some much needed joy during this crazy time.”
– Andie Biederman

“On our first official day of quarantine, March 15, I grabbed a dry erase board from my office to start keeping track of the days, jail cell style. My fiancé also suggested we write down the ‘good stuff’ that happened each day, no matter how small. It seemed cheesy at first, but it’s helped us find joy in the little things.”
– Ashley Davidson

“I’m making good use of our Fish-branded yoga mats and practicing new poses. Just learned Dragonfly!”
– Lauren Simo

“During this quarantine, we’ve taken the time to pot some plants and turned our patio into our own desert oasis in downtown Dallas!”
– Alexya Williams

“I have mastered the art of packing, carrying, and unpacking boxes. Moving across the pond in 2014 was so much easier than moving around the corner during a pandemic! Available for hire for your next move!”
– Jenna Kantrowitz

“I’ve enjoyed having more time to take walks and explore our city. Here’s Maddie at one of our new favorite spots we discovered on Fort Lauderdale’s Riverfront.”
– Samantha Russo

“My daily ritual to reduce stress and clear my head. :)”
– Lorne Fisher

“I made oatmeal M&M cookies because what better to do than bake during quarantine!”
– Nikki Rode

“Bringing my yoga practice home to new partners. My dog loves to lay on my mat and show off her down dog. My mom and sister have been joining me for yoga sessions, too! Wine may or may not be included. ;)”
– Marisa Colucci

“My silver lining has been taking advantage of the opportunity to support small local businesses by ordering from a bunch of new food places — like Playa Bowls!”
– Lucy Kaneb

“A nap a day keeps corona away.”
– Bernie Fisher

“Bands and blades for days.”
– Matt Ritter

“I’ve created an at-home yoga studio and have landed some new yoga poses that I was never able to do in my group classes. Don’t mind part of my new kiddie pool toys in the background.”
– Allison Rehwinkel

“My quarantine silver lining is spending quality time with family — even if we’re all driving each other nuts. :)”
– Claibourne Rogers

“Going on runs in gorgeous secluded trails allows me to get some fresh air and appreciate the outdoor scenery, and I’m LOVING it.”
– Natalia Rodrigues

“During quarantine I decided it was the perfect time to take the plunge and help a local rescue through becoming a foster parent. As soon as I was approved to foster dogs, an urgent request came through for fosters willing to help raise four-week-old puppies who were abandoned — so of course I said yes! Flash forward a month and these puppies have been a source of laughs and much-needed distraction during these weird times. I mean, who could be in a bad mood around puppies?!”
– Julia Block
