November Fish Insights

I may be a little biased, but I am all about this month’s edition of Fish Insights. We’re talkin’ about new plant-based “meat” (which fits right in with the flexitarian thing I’ve been doing), ordering takeout for Thanksgiving (holiday goals), New Year’s resolutions that aren’t diet and exercise (finally!), and winemakers utilizing their skills to make skincare products (which I will use while drinking wine during my self-care routine).

So when you’re ready, sit back, relax, and enjoy this only-slightly-pandemic-focused edition of Fish Insights! I promise it’s mostly fun stuff.

Restaurants

  • Beyond Meat launched a meatless minced “pork” in China intended to mimic the taste of the filling in popular Asian dishes. (CNN Business)
  • LA County is shutting down outdoor dining for at least three weeks. (Los Angeles Magazine)
  • Finally, my dream of staying home on Thanksgiving and ordering take-out is a thing. (TODAY)

Travel & Hospitality

  • Despite warnings from public health experts, 3 million people went through U.S. airport checkpoints this past weekend — marking the biggest crowds since mid-March. (AP)
  • These hotels and inns are making it easier for you to celebrate the holidays safely with your pod / quaranteam. (Fodors)
  • Luxury hotels are making a good night’s sleep a selling point with things like weighted blankets, melatonin gummies, and a $200,000 mattress. Sign me up! (Travel Weekly) 

Fitness, Health, & Wellness

  • Kick that weight-loss New Year’s resolution to the curb and treat yourself to a little R&R. (WSJ)
  • Psychedelic drugs are increasingly becoming more accepted as a way to treat mental health disorders. (NBC News)
  • Want all the benefits of cardio, but hate running? Try this HIIT leg workout. (SELF)

Retail

  • The National Retail Federation expects holiday sales will grow between 3.6% and 5.2% this year. (NRF)
  • Goodbye, FOBO! Retailers are cutting back on choices to combat “decision paralysis.” (WSJ)
  • To encourage people to stay home, retailers are swapping the usual holiday “doorbusters” for several weeks of deals and even online-only items. (CNBC)

Beauty

  • Winemakers are getting into the beauty game with their own line of skincare products. (Financial Times)
  • Retailers like Target and Kohl’s are investing more in beauty as they look to drive more customers into stores. (CNBC)
  • Beauty brands and retailers are throwin’ it back to the late 90s and early 2000s — and, yes, I’ll take a Caboodle full of Lip Smacker. (Glossy)
