How to Give Back in Ukraine

Like most around the world, I’ve been heartbroken to see the devastation Russia is inflicting in Ukraine. If you want to give back to those in need but don’t know where to start, here’s a list of some organizations who are on the ground doing great work and could use your support. Remember, every dollar counts!

The Ukrainian Red Cross
The Red Cross is often on the frontlines of war serving to help those affected by armed conflict. The Ukrainian Red Cross is currently assisting people inside the country by aiding evacuations and providing shelter, food and basic necessities.

GlobalGiving Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund
GlobalGiving is raising funds to support locally-led organizations throughout Ukraine. Any donations to the fund will provide essentials for refugees, health, psychological and support and access to education and economic assistance.

Supporting Refugees
Hosting countries can absorb much more in donations than they are getting, but the key is identifying organizations that’ll effectively put the money to work feeding, housing, and assisting refugees. Recommended organizations include Polish Humanitarian Action, the Polish Association for Legal Intervention for refugee rights, the Polish Center for International Aid, HIAS, and their Ukrainian partner R2P.

Voices of Children
The Ukrainian organization’s Charitable Foundation helps provide psychological and psychosocial support to children affected by the armed conflict, according to its website. Voices of Children’s efforts of support for kids include art therapy, video storytelling, providing mobile psychologists and even individual help for families.

BStrong
Bethenny Frankel has helped raise some significant additional monetary support for Ukraine. The Real Housewives of New York City alum has raised another $4 million in cash donations in addition to the $10 million in aid that the organization is already delivering to the region. Frankel said her group was initially in Poland helping Ukrainian refugees with relocation, in addition to providing them with crisis kits. Last month, shortly after the conflict began, the former reality star told PEOPLE that her nonprofit had started to roll out 100,000 crisis kits, which came with items such as blankets, sleeping bags, toiletry kits, non-perishables, water, and generators.
