Finding time to work out

I am the first one to admit that going to the gym after a long day at work is extremely hard and takes a great amount of self-discipline. Once 5:30 pm hits, I am ready to walk out and hit happy hour or go home to plop down on the couch. However, that’s not always practical and health professionals say we should get a minimum of 30 minutes a day of physical activity. That’s why, we have to leave the excuses behind and figure it out – for the sake of our mental and physical health. Here’s how to do that!

Book a class

Driving over to the gym takes a lot of effort. It’s so easy to just say forget it and head home instead. However, if you book and pay for a spin class, you’re more likely to stay committed to working out. Tailored classes are usually more expensive than general gym memberships so knowing that should give you an extra motivator to stick with it. You’ll also have people in class expecting to see you, which  might make you feel more obligated to go!

Invest in workout equipment

The days where I just can’t make it to the gym for one reason or another, I know that I can at least squeeze in a workout at home. Invest in a few dumbbells, kettlebells, yoga mat and resistance bands. Also, consider setting a timer at home so you know that you have to push through until the timer goes off.

Workout in the morning

By no means am I one to wake up at 5 am and hit the treadmill. I’m more of an afternoon workout type of person, but many around me swear by starting their day off with a sweat. It is also believed to wake up your senses and encourage you to keep moving throughout the day, so if you don’t mind being an early bird, try this out!

One way or another, we have to figure out how to stay active and get moving. Find out what works for you and stick to it! Not only will it keep you healthy, but also improve your overall strength, energy level and mood.
