20 Questions with Nate Rubinstein

Nate might be one of our newest Fishies, but he’s jumped right in and already feels like part of the Fish fam. With in-depth PR experience from his years at Ohio State and a handful of post-college gigs, including a stint as a sports reporter and videographer in Massachusetts, our D.C.-based newbie has made quite an impact, securing coverage for clients including Captain D’s, Jack in the Box and FOCUS. When Nate isn’t busy securing the next big media hit for his clients, you’ll find him watching sports, playing golf, reading, listening to music, enjoying a nice glass of bourbon or whiskey, or hosting the podcast he and his friends created, The 0 to 100 Podcast, about the greatest athletes to wear each jersey number. Keep reading below for other fun tidbits about Nate

Work you and personal you likely differ slightly. So how would your friends describe you?
I think my friends would describe me as ‘caring’. I pride myself on staying in touch with friends from high school, college and the various cities that I’ve lived in over the course of my early professional career. I enjoy hearing their life updates!

And how would Lorne describe you?
Unfortunately, due to COVID, and being remote since I started with Fish, I haven’t spent much time with Lorne. But I believe ‘professional’ could be the word he uses. Simply because I have started out on the right foot (I hope, at least) and am making positive contributions to the team. Can’t wait to be down at the South Florida office.

Bookworm or TV addict?
Although I watch an uncomfortable amount of sporting events, I’d classify myself as a bookworm. I read a ton of magazine and newspaper articles, and always have a couple books in rotation. Currently reading “Mindset” by Carol S. Dweck and “Home is the Sailor” by Jorge Amado.

What’s your funniest Fish memory?
It’s a bummer that I haven’t been able to meet any of my colleagues in person yet. No real funny moments come to mind, but I do get a kick out of Matt Ritter’s ‘Ritter Rants’ on Twitter. He may be South Florida’s biggest sports critic.

If you were Lorne for a day, what would you do?
Play 36 holes of golf, and then finish off the day with at the nearest steakhouse.

Early bird or night owl?
I have a tough time sleeping in past 7 a.m., even on weekends. Most days I’m up at 5 a.m. and like to get a workout in to start the day. With that being said, I’m an early bird.

What are you currently binge watching on Netflix?
Last Chance U Basketball – An awesome documentary series on a junior college basketball team out of East Los Angeles. I’ve also been re-watching episodes of the Sopranos.

Tacos – hard shell or soft shell?
Soft. Used to choose hard shells 95% of the time, but I switched to soft because you can fit way more fix-ins within the taco.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Probably my vision. I wish I didn’t have to deal with glasses and contacts. Hoping one day I could get Lasik surgery.

If it were up to you, what would your song selection be for conference line hold music?
“The World is Yours” – Nas

Bloody Mary or Mimosa? And you can’t say both, although I’d absolutely respect it.
Mimosa. Haven’t really dabbled in the Bloody Mary game.

You can bring anyone as a date to a dinner party, dead or alive, who’s your plus one?
I ask this question to people all the time. I’m bringing my grandfather 10 times out of 10. Outgoing, incredible listener and always knows how to put a smile on your face.

We know you can’t sing, but what’s your go-to karaoke song?
“Hold On, We’re Going Home” by Toronto’s finest, Drake.

What’s your party trick?
I could make the chips and salsa disappear.

Pick your poison – straight shot or mixed cocktail?
Cocktail. More specifically an old fashioned or a ginger whiskey.

Amy Poehler or Amy Schumer?
Amy Poehler

If you could spend a year living anywhere in the world, where would it be?
St. Andrews, Scotland. I’m an avid golfer and would love to live in the birthplace of the game for a year.

When was the last time you told a lie? And if you say you don’t lie, then your answer should be “right this second.”
Pretty sure I told my fiancé last night that I cleaned the bathroom in our apartment. I did not clean the bathroom. Sorry, Amanda. *shrugs*

Besides an ice cold cocktail, what motivates you?
Family, health and happiness.

If your name were an acronym, what would it stand for?
