20 Questions with Jami Baker

No two Fishies are made alike, but if there’s one common trait we all share, it’s our creativity. So it’s safe to say our newest team member Jami Baker fits the bill. When the pandemic forced Jami and her husband to cancel their wedding weekend in San Francisco, they got creative. She and her husband, whose last name is Cook, opted to stick with their original wedding date and got married at Jami’s parents’ house. Yep — a Baker and Cook got married in a kitchen! Jami applies that same passion for creativity to her work, which is why she’s such a PR pro. Want to learn more about our newest Senior Account Director? Keep reading!

Work you and personal you likely differ slightly. So how would your friends describe you?
Tough question right out of the gate! I definitely bring the same sense of humor, sarcasm and confidence to both work and my friendships. My friends would probably say I’m more of a goofball with them, I’m very maternal, extremely thoughtful and considerate. They would 100% call me a lush.

And how would Lorne describe you?
Motivated, confident and smart (I hope!!)

Bookworm or TV addict?
My new year’s resolution was to read more, but I have yet to deliver on that. I would not say I am a TV addict, but I watch TV and movies more than I read.

What’s your funniest Fish memory?
I only started in April, so I can’t say I have many long-term memories just yet, but the fact that I am working with Lauren Simo again is a pretty great coincidence. She was my mentor and good friend at my very first PR job over a decade ago and now I am bringing my career full circle – also really showing my age here!!

If you were Lorne for a day, what would you do?
Probably go into the office and order sushi for the team. Sake-bombs are optional.

Early bird or night owl?
Neither! I usually fall asleep on the couch every night around 10pm and cannot get out of bed before 7am.

What are you currently binge watching on Netflix?
We recently went through a Mortgage vs. Marriage phase. Now I’m hooked on HBO’s new murder mystery Mare of Easttown with Kate Winslet.

Tacos – hard shell or soft shell?
Def soft shell tacos, but always have tortilla chips to fulfill the crunch craving.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’d have perfectly blow-dried hair with zero frizz. That way I wouldn’t have to waste time doing it myself or have to care about Florida’s 100% humidity!

If it were up to you, what would your song selection be for conference line hold music?
I have an old soul when it comes to my music preferences. I choose Motown, The Beatles and Billy Joel stations over anything else.

Bloody Mary or Mimosa? And you can’t say both, although I’d absolutely respect it.
Bloody Mary – and make it spicy!

You can bring anyone as a date to a dinner party, dead or alive, who’s your plus one?
I have a locked in plus one for life, my husband, my number one arm candy for any and every occasion. Can I pick the dinner party guests?? If so: Barack & Michelle Obama, Stephen Colbert, Chelsea Handler, Elton John, Kate McKinnon…

We know you can’t sing, but what’s your go-to karaoke song?
Billy Joel “You May Be Right” – PS: You do NOT want to hear my singing voice. Ever.

What’s your party trick?
Being the chef and making an amazing spread of food, my name is Baker Cook afterall! It’s not a party without pigs-in-a-blanket (the homemade kind) – and that’s a fact.

Pick your poison – straight shot or mixed cocktail?
Mixed cocktail: death by Dirty Martini – with Hendrix & blue cheese stuffed olives.

Amy Poehler or Amy Schumer?
Amy Poehler

If you could spend a year living anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Italy

When was the last time you told a lie? And if you say you don’t lie, then your answer should be “right this second.”
Yesterday, when I told myself I was going to work out on a Monday.

Besides an ice cold cocktail, what motivates you?
Pizza, definitely pizza… But also my friends and family constantly inspire me to be the best, most successful version of myself. And most importantly, the team I am surrounded by – it’s only fun if we are all working our butts off together and rewarded for those results.

If your name were an acronym, what would it stand for?
Joking
Ambitious
Maternal
Intelligent
